We tried. by Efaniel We tried. by Efaniel
Hmm, what should I say? ......

Before insulting and judging someone from their grammar skills, we should find out where the person is from. Foreign speakers put a lot of effort to make people understand. They struggle to explain things in English. They struggle to find the correct words, spell correct spellings and use correct grammar, and still can make mistakes. Sometimes they don't understand hardcore-metaphorical idioms or use wrong collocations or mess up the sentence structure. Please use your ability to speak English fluently to help others, not to criticize them. Thanks!

Examples:
-It's not that they don't know the difference between "your" and "you're." Please don't be sarcastic and give them a lesson on possessive pronouns and contractions; it's more than likely to confuse them! But it's that some of us really misunderstood that it was supposed to be said "your welcome," mostly because we don't usually hear "you are welcome," so the idea of saying "you're welcome" is kind of uncomfortable when it comes to deciding with intuition whether to use "your" or "you're" on the spur of the moment. This doesn't apply to everybody, but at least at one point of life I really thought like this.

I want this stamp to be as positive as possible. Did I succeed? ;A;

(This has nothing to do with things like this >> [link] since it should and could have been made more professionally. You're a four-star hotel, dude! But never mind, this is interesting & funny. xD)

I didn't include "I'm" at the start of the sentence in the stamp because there is no space left.

Template : $zilla774

p.s. You may think I speak English well, but in fact half of what I say is taken/adapted from somebody else, and my dictionary.
:lmao:

I'm not native (I speak canadian French), but I'm quite good at grammar, but when a non-native speaks, I don't criticize them (sometimes they tell me, you know, SFBE?).
I hope one day I'll be bilingual, or even trilingual.

I think a lot of English speakers, especially those who don't know a secondary language, really don't understand how difficult it is to learn another language. I've been learning English since I was about 8 years old, and at the age of 22 I still struggle with it. I need to look up words all the time, or check for spelling, and my phrasing can be pretty awkward and stilted at times. I struggle the most when it comes to speaking. Swedish and English are very different from each other, and some English words just sits weirdly in my mouth, and my pronounciation end up slurred or clunky. Even if you know how a word is supposed to sound, forming the words can be incredibly difficult on a physical level.

I always say it's unnecessary for a person to say at the end of the comment, "Sorry for my bad english." I mean, if I can understand you and what you're trying to get across, we don't have an issue. That, and I've dealt with people from the States that have worse grammar than a lot of the people that are from foreign countries :o It's kind of sad. And the english language is evil, so I cut some slack XD
I always thought broken english was rather adorable anyway XD

I agree. Sometimes I don't even notice mistakes until "sorry for bad english" which makes me go back to find why it's bad.

It's so true, some people just automatically assume that you're from the States, but fact is that a lot of people who use this and other English sites are not.. :P
I've actually tried a couple of times that someone made fun of/corrected something I wrote in here, and then when I explained that English isn't my native language, they'd be like "Huh? Well, then your English is great!" :XD:
I don't experience it a lot anymore since my English has improved a lot the last couple of years, but I know what it feels like to have difficulties.. :) I personally do my best to help other people in here who are still learning English..

Omg, why do I always start rambling? :XD: I'll shut up now!

Amen, I'm agree with you totally. Sometimes I mess up so much when I try to explain something in my deviations description, even if I use an on-line translator (well, sometimes not helps so much .), sometimes I feel like people doesn't understand me and that is awful x_x. But I try my best to comunicate me in english, for the moment is my way to improve my english... and the best is that works :la:

I know how frustrating it is to explain stuff in English! It's like when you start to say something you realize you don't know half of all the keywords. XD
But it's okay, I think you communicate really well! Internet is the best place to improve English skills. (:
